The NAA listens to parents, students and school district staff to indentify Northside student needs in the area of extracurricular activities. We work closely with the Sioux City Community School District to identify those needs that do not have sufficient financial support from the District. In this era of exceedingly tight budgetary constraints, the School District must focus its resources on operations and critical building repairs. In fact, they recently spent about $5 million in repairs for the nearly 40-year-old North High School. However, limited resources and necessary building repairs at several Sioux City schools prevent them from fully supporting the needs of our Northside students. Through generous donations from good people and caring businesses in our community, the NAA fills this gap.
The NAA undertakes large capital expenditure projects such as the complete renovation of the NHS Activities Complex (done in 2007) and our current project, renovation of the NHS Auditorium. Both of these projects are described in detail on the following pages of our website. In addition, the NAA provides money to help support the cost of numerous athletic and fine arts programs. We don’t want ANY student to avoid extracurricular activities because he or she can’t afford it. Finally, the NAA oversees the activities of the Spirit Club, which sells NHS and NMS apparel to promote school pride and support school programs.
